Yiamas (meaning to our health) celebrated the release of their debut CD, Evolution, alongside the premiere of My Big Fat Greek Wedding, where their music was performed live in the film.

Since then, Yiamas Music has performed at Ontario’s largest festivals, including the Krinos Taste of the Danforth, and at notable venues in Greece, such as Moni Lazariston. Their vibrant stage presence and authentic sound continue to resonate with audiences of all ages.

Evolution

Jeannie Niokos and Nick Kutsukos’s debut album, Evolution, showcases Bouzouki, Soprano Saxophone, Flute, Piano, and a rhythm section. This diverse instrumentation reflects the opportunities Niokos experienced growing up and studying in multicultural Toronto, Canada.

Inspired by Niokos’s upbringing with Greek immigrant parents in Toronto, the album explores her journey to connect with both her Greek heritage and Canadian identity. Through their music, Niokos celebrates both cultures.

Evolution draws on the lively rhythms of Greek folk music, featuring traditional dances such as the Kalamatiano, Zembekio, and Karsilamas. The album also incorporates Greek Ancient (Byzantine) modes like The Sabbah, Hijaz, and Ousak, giving the songs an eastern Mediterranean flavor and character. Together, they blend Greek tradition with Western influences to create music that is both personal and widely appealing.

Evolution is a testament to the power of cultural synthesis—a dazzling and deeply personal conversation between ancestry and the present day. It invites listeners to experience the compelling beauty that arises when heritage, self-discovery, and masterful musicianship collide.
